Book an AppointmentWhat is colic and digestive issues?
Colic describes excessive, inconsolable crying in a baby who is otherwise healthy, typically occurring in the late afternoon or evening and causing real distress for both baby and parents. It is very common in the first few months of life and usually improves as the digestive system matures.
Digestive discomfort in babies can manifest as trapped wind, straining, difficulty passing stools, reflux or general unsettledness after feeding. Sometimes this discomfort is linked to physical tension that the baby is holding from the birth process.
Gentle osteopathy, and in particular cranial osteopathy, can help release this tension, calm the nervous system and support more comfortable digestion. At Oak Park Clinic, this work is led by Ellie Tapper, who has specialist training in paediatric and cranial osteopathy.

How we can help
Ellie uses very gentle cranial and soft tissue techniques to release tension in the baby's tummy, diaphragm and nervous system. Treatment is subtle and non-invasive, there is no manipulation or force. Many babies relax deeply during treatment and the effects are often noticed within a day or two of the first session.
We also share practical advice with parents on feeding positions, winding techniques and what to try at home between sessions.
